2220 18th St S, Saint Petersburg, FL 33712 is a 5 bed, 4 bath, 2,660 Sqft, 13,543 sqft lot, public records show the house house built in 1928, but some evidence exists that this was the year it appeared on official record and that it had actually been built years earlier.
The home was owned for many years by the Coney family who were well known in the St Petersburg area for owning and operating a large number of rental properties. Searching newspaper archives from the mid to late 20th century will return countless classified ads for apartment and home rentals
All attempts to purchase this property have been unsuccessful. We discovered this after being victimized by a rental scam in which we paid a scammer to rent the property. After much hard work we were made aware of the status of the property in the form of a summons to civil court. We discovered the property was owned by HUD and began a journey of research into the history of the property.
HUD, whose purpose is to assist people into homes, appears by their actions to have taken the position that they hope to profit from this property. They have yet to produce a title, though their legal team is "working on it" it appears for over 4 years now. They do nothing at all to bring the property into compliance with the city code. A project we had taken on when we signed a now apparently fake rent to own aggrement. Based on HUDs inaction in regard to the adequate maintenance of the property, it's clear their hope is to sell it off at a price so high only a developer who would choose to demolish and build something new in it's place could afford.
Being the first home built in this area, we feel it would be a huge historical loss for this to happen. Please support us in our mission to prevent this sad fate.
